One of the most frequently performed operas, Le nozze di Figaro is an audience favourite. This 2021 production is an exceptional treat from Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Expect all the glitz and glamour of the 1980s where Rosina is a rock star and Count Almaviva plays her manager.

Directed by Vincent Huguet and conducted by Daniel Barenboim.

The French composer is best-known for Boléro which was famously skated to during the 1984 Winter Olympics. Ravel composed operas including L’heure espagnole and L’enfant et les sortilèges, as well as vocal works and pianos concertos.

Didone (2006)

This opera combines elements of comedy and tragedy as it focuses on the famous story of Aeneas’ departure after the fall of Troy and his passionate love for Dido, queen of Carthage. Expect modern staging and understated but appropriate costumes.

Ermione (2008)

Ermione opened the 2008 Rossini Opera Festival with Sonia Ganassi making her debut in the title role. The production is set during WWII and explores the fatal love triangle between Ermione, Pirro and Andromaca.
