COMPOSER COLLECTIONS: JULES MASSENET

The French composer was best known for his operas which were very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His works disappeared from the standard repertory but have undergone periodic revival since the 1980s. He was a master of melody and you can enjoy works such as ManonWerther and more on CueTV.

Armida (2015)

Part of Opera Vlaanderen’s Rossini opera cycle, this rarely performed Rossini masterpiece can be described as an opera for tenors. It features breathtaking bel canto songs and the spellbinding trio of tenors in Act III.

La Dori (2019)

This engaging and comedic production marked the 350th anniversary of the composer’s death. Set in the 17th century, the costumes add a burst of colour and sparkle in this complex tale of arranged marriage, disguise, love intrigues and comedy.

Fidelio (2004)

Featuring absorbing performances from a stellar cast before their rise to fame, this version from Opernhaus Zürich uses minimalist staging and modern-day costumes.
